I'm asking those that have joined this forum and those who follow us on Facebook to answer the following three questions:
1. What's the best things about living without a prostate?
2. What's the worst things you face living without a prostate?
3. Knowing what you know today would you choose surgery again? Why or Why not?
This is your opportunity to use your experiences to help other men and couples cope with life without a prostate. After 88 people visited this thread without posting, I thought I'd get the ball rolling by sharing some of my thoughts.
The best things about living without a prostate:
1. Since I had an enlarged prostate two issues plagued me:
A. The need to wake up multiple times to use the bathroom
B. A urine flow so slow I required surgery, then medication, and soon a second surgery
Without my prostate my urine flow is now what it was when I was in my 20's and I don't have go to the bathroom multiple times per/night. I get more sleep and feel more rested every day of my life.
2. The peace of mind I have knowing there is not a single cell left in my prostate which is cancerous. I could never achieve peace of mind with radiation.
The worst things:
1. The loss of ejaculation-For me orgasms are not as pleasurable or intense.
2. The worsening of my erectile abilities. Even with ED meds I can't achieve an erection as frequently as I did prior to surgery.
3. Leaking urine-I don't need a pad, but a sneeze, cough or bending will a full bladder will cause me to leak small quantities of urine. This remains true 3 years post surgery.
Would I have surgery again:
1. On a survey given on my website: Would you do it again? only 64% of the men who had surgery said they do it again. I'm among that 64%. Whether I would have waited a few more months is a separate issue.
I hope by sharing my thoughts, other men will be encouraged to do the same.
