A women made a very interesting but sad observation in her review of I Left My Prostate in San Francisco-Where's Yours?
She wrote: "Many people do not even like their names to appear on church prayer lists for this type of cancer. However, a book like this has been long overdue!"
Are men so ashamed of prostate cancer they won't even ask for prayer? I hope that's not true in your life. It certainly wasn't true for us.
We believe our prayers and the prayers that others prayed were very important to us. We were especially moved when some of our friends shared their prayers for us via e-mail, or when our Pastor would pray for us during the worship service.
Both of us believe our prayers and the prayers from others made a difference in our lives. The Lord may or may not answer your prayer for total healing, but there are many other things you can pray for. Here were a few of the things I prayed for, and why I prayed for them. Each of these prayers were answered:
I prayed for wisdom. the Bible says:
Prov 16:16
How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
James 1:5-6
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
There were many places in this journey where we needed to make important decisions. We prayed for the wisdom to make the right decisions and we believe those prayers were answered multiple times.
I prayed for help:
Ps 50:15
Call upon Me in the day of trouble;I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.
It's ironic that my first experience with receiving help was through a song whose words were: "Help is on the way."
How I found this is still amazing to me, and looking back, I didn't find it, I was led to it. This song was the first answer to my prayer for help:

I prayed for comfortt. The Bible says:
2 Cor
1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Brenda & I felt this comfort many times, though promises we found in the Bible, through hymns and praise songs, and from kind words spoken to us by friends, and strangers. This forum would not have exist if this verse were not true.
I prayed that God would use my experiences to help others. At the time I never imagined I'd end up writing a book, or hosting a Pre and Post surgery forum. My prayer was answered beyond my expectations. If my book or these forums have helped you in any way, that is another answer to my prayers.
Here's the place to share how prayer is making a difference in your life as you cope with prostate cancer and post surgical issues.
