Approximately 3 months following surgery you will have your first PSA test. The reason for the wait is that it takes that period of time for PSA to go down to undetectable levels after the prostate is removed. Testing before this time would give inaccurate results. Waiting for the results of post surgery PSA tests can strike fear into the hearts of the bravest of men. After surgery you may wonder what are the odds you could have a reoccurance. If that's a concern to you, this link might help you to understand the statistical probabilities of a release based on your situation. Here's that link: Prostate CalculatorMost men will be asked to take a PSA test every 3 months for the first year post surgery. After year 1 it could moved to to every 6 months, and finally every year. It's important to stay on the grid and get your PSA tests on a regular basis until you've reached the age where you say: At this point if I had a reoccurance I wouldn't want treatment." Here are good links to an articles about a rise a PSA following surgery: What does a rise in PSA after surgery mean? What Happens When PSA Comes BackHe's a thread to share the anxiety of waiting, and to share the results of your PSA tests following surgery.

Michael, GREAT NEWS! Lately I've been meeting too many men who've received the news that cancer has spread outside of their prostate. It's fantastic to hear that your PSA is undetectable. How do you plan to celebrate? Rick

Had my first post surgery PSA this morning (surgery was 11 weeks ago). Scored a .004! Should be happy...but still in a funk.
