During your surgery your internal plumbing was disconnected and reconnected. If you lift something heavy you could sever those connections. They cannot be reattached. It's likely you'll need a catheter for the rest of your life.
So if you Dr tells you not to lift anything beyond 5 lbs or more believe him/her, even though you are certainly capable of lifting 5 lbs. You want everything inside to heal properly.
I recently heard from a man who decided to shovel snow 1 week after surgery. He ended up busting open his stitches, which lead to a host of other medical issues and surgeries (5). For the next 20 plus years he was permanently incontinent. Do you think if he could go back in time for a re-do he'd shovel his driveway? He'd probably say that was the worst and most costly decision he's made in his life. So learn from his mistake. Follow ALL your post surgical instructions to the letter.
If you want to gripe about post-surgical restrictions, here's the thread to do so. Rick
