Coping with urinary incontinence can be a difficult task. There are 3 components to coping: 1. The practical side- Can I use pads or will I need diapers? What's the best brand? How how can I prevent leaking and wetting my pants 2. The emotional side-How I'll feel about myself while I'm unable to control my flow of urine. 3. The relational side-One or both of you may feel some level of disgust regarding urine. This could have a major impact on your sexual relationship and how you relate to your partner. 4. The medical side-There is something you can do to help you regain control. One question that's on every man's mind is: How long will it take for me to regain control? For the majority of men you will re-gain your control within a 3 month period. That said, it me 19 months before I stopped wearing a pad. Three years post surgery, if my bladder is full and I bend or sneeze, I'll still leak small quantities of urine. It is VERY distressing to a man to lose urinary control and end up wearing diapers. I hope men will share how they felt, how they coped and provide practical tips for those beginning on this journey. 13 TipsKegel Exercises for MenThe loss of urinary control can cause men to withdraw or experience depression which is why I devoted 2 chapters to this issue in my book: I Left My Prostate in San Francisco-Where's Yours?
