Following surgery your rectum will be very sore. I needed two things: 1. Stool Softener-You should be given a prescription for this and don't forget to take it. If you do you will suffer during bowel movements.
2. A donut pillow-It hurt to sit down. A donut pillow make it much more comfortable to be seated.

Rick, see my post below....how long did you have problems with the swelling and soreness? I'm taking 250-400 mg per day. How long did you take them?

Byron, I'm very sorry to hear you are having these difficulties. I'm not a Doctor, so I don't have a clue as to how to advise you with regard to how long you'd need a stool softener after Cryosurgery. If you want or need additional information because your current Doctor isn't answering your concerns, I'd suggest getting a second medical opinion. That's the best and only advice I can offer.

I've developed chronic idiopathic constipation as a result of my surgery. I'm not sure why this is except that in my appendectomy six years prior to my prostate surgery, my colon was temporarily pulled out of my body to get to the appendix (appendix burst) and then DURING my prostate surgery, my colon was messed with again. I'm on Linzess but that just gives me the runs for a few hours after taking the medication. Then I'm regular the rest of the day. Am i stuck with one extreme or the other?

Max, I just attended a Cancer Survivorship Conference. The dietitian who spoke recommended eating a regular size marshmallow every day to deal with the runs. Try this for two days and see if that simple act can reduce or end the time you have with the runs.
Also suggest to ask your Doctor about this issue and try a different stool softener. I don't think every stool softening medication will give you the runs. I'm amazed at the number of issues you are facing post surgery. Rick

It wasn't an uneventful surgery. Lots of problems so lots of side effects. I'll call my doctor tomorrow and see what he has to say. The runs are from the medication as is bloating. Linzess might not be the right medication for me.

ok, since my last post, I moved to Iowa and found a good doctor. He suggested Senkot for my constipation. It helps a lot but every so often, I still have serious constipation. I might have to up this medication. Yes, I have had a lot of problems post-surgery but the surgery had a lot of complications. In no way was my surgery remotely normal.
